Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is used to address Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs). OMDs are disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth.

OMDs can include one or a combination of the following:
  • Thumb and finger sucking habits
  • A routine habit of resting with the lips apart
  • A forward resting posture of the tongue between or against the teeth
  • Tongue Thrust
  • Clenching or grinding of the teeth
  • Other harmful oral habits

OMDs can impact breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, alignment of the teeth, chewing, swallowing, speech, temporomandibular movement, oral hygiene, stabilization of the teeth during and/or after orthodontic treatment, facial esthetics, and more.
